EXCESSIVE ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION INSPECTION

Oil consumption can be caused by combustion gas leakage around pistons. A dirty
crankcase breather will cause high pressure in crankcase, which will cause gaskets and
seals to leak.
Engine Oil Leaks on Outside of Engine

1. Inspect engine for Class III oil leaks at front of crankshaft (Figure 2, Item 3) seal. Replace front oil seal if leak is
identified (WP 0086).
2. Inspect engine for Class III leaks at engine oil pan gasket (Figure 2, Item 2). Replace oil pan gasket if leak is
identified (WP 0090).
3. Inspect engine for oil leaks from crankcase breather (Figure 2, Item 1). Replace crankcase breather if leak is
identified (WP 0037).
