CAN DATA LINK CIRCUIT TEST
00034
1. CAN Data Link is also known as J1939 Data Link. Data link is an industry standard for sending data between
different devices in same application.
2. High speed data is transferred via data link. Data link cannot be accurately tested without complicated
equipment. Data link requires a resistance of 60 ohms between two wires to correctly transmit data. This
resistance is made up of two 120 ohm resistors.
3. Terminating resistors should be at opposite ends of a data link network. If resistance is not present, data will be
intermittent or completely unreadable.
N OT E
The wiring for J1939 data link is a twisted pair. If wiring is damaged, replacement type
must be a twisted pair.
The following components are associated with the CAN data link:
XMSN/Chassis ECM - J2:67 and J2:68
Engine ECM - J1:20 and J1:21
Implement #1 ECM - J2:67 and J2:68
Implement #1 ECM - J2:67 and J2:68
Diagnostic Connector - terminal F and G
