Always inspect the harness connectorsthat are involved in the circuit.
Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical
circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean and secure,
and that all connections are in good condition. If a problem with a con-
nection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code
is Active before performing this procedure.
Perform open or short circuit test ateach harness connection to identify
correct harness to replace.
Perform this test only if condition is active.
Test Step 1. Test Sensor and Cir-
cuits.
1. Connect MSD (WP 0006). Select
0585-02 Code Active - Proceed to
Trans/Chassis 120M and verify
step 2.
0585-02 is active.
0585-02 Code Not Active - Trouble-
shooting complete.
2. Turn ignition switch and battery
disconnect switch to the OFF
position (TM 5-3805-293-10).
3. Disconnect transmission sensor
wiring harness connector V-C8
(WP 0009, Figure 149) from
transmission output speed sen-
sor 1 (WP 0009, Figure 150) (WP
0148).
4. Using a digital multimeter, mea-

sure resistance between trans-
or Less Than 600 Ohms - Replace
mission output speed sensor
transmission output speed sensor 1
(sensor side) terminal 1 and ter-
(WP 0148).
minal 2.
Proceed to step 12.
Resistance should be between
Resistance OK - Proceed to step 5.
600 ohms and 1,800 ohms.
5. Install a jumper wire between har-
ness connector V-C8 (WP 0009,
Figure 149) terminal 1 and termi-
nal 2.
6. Disconnect harness connector
FA-C20 (WP 0009, Figure 113)
from transmission ECM J1 (WP
0009, Figure 112).
