TM 5-3805-261-20STARTING MOTOR MAINTENANCE.7-13.Solenoid (Prestolite).(Sheet 2 of 4)NOTEREMOVALUse Prestolite Solenoids only onPrestolite Starters.1.Remove two nuts (1), lockwashers (2),connector (3) and screw (4, Figure 7-22).NOTEAll wire, cable and harnessassemblies must be tagged beforedisconnecting to aid in installation.2.Disconnect wire assembly (5) at terminal.3.Remove screw (6).4.Remove plug (7) and preformed packing (8)from starting motor (14) in lever housing.Discard preformed packing (8).NOTEAn adapter tool must be fabricated toaid in removal, replacement andadjustment of lock nut. Refer toAppendix 0.5.Remove and discard lock nut (9, Figure 7-23). Insert fabricated adapter tool in 1/2inch-3/8 inch drive socket. Insert 5/32 inchhex key through hole in fabricated adaptertool. Hold shaft with hex key and turn locknut (9) with 3/8 inch wrench on fabricatedadapter tool.6.Remove four screws (10), lockwashers (11)and washers (12).7.Separate solenoid (13) from starting motor(14).
