WATER PUMP INSPECTION CONTINUED

3. Turn OFF the ignition switch (TM 5-3805-293-10).
4. Remove water pump (Figure 8, Item 1) from engine (WP 0082).
5. Rotate water pump shaft (Figure 8, Item 2) and inspect water pump shaft for unusual noise, excessive
looseness, and/or vibration of bearings.
a. If noise, damage, or wear is identified, replace water pump (WP 0082).
b. If water pump shaft rotates freely, proceed to step 6.
6. Inspect water pump drive gear (Figure 8, Item 3) for wear and damage.
a. If gear (Figure 8, Item 3) is worn or damaged, replace water pump (WP 0082).
b. If water pump drive gear is OK, proceed to step 7.
7. Inspect water pump impeller (Figure 8, Item 4) for wear, erosion, and damage.
a. If impeller is worn, eroded, or damaged, replace water pump (WP 0082).
b. If no wear or damage is indicated on engine, install water pump (WP 0082).
