CrankshaftMainBearings.(Sheet 2 of 12)REMOVAL (Front, Center and Rear MainBearings and Thrust Bearings)NOTEThis task is divided intotwo sections: removal offront, center and rear mainbearings and thrustbearings and removal of twointermediate main bearings.Each crankshaft bearing caphas a number and an arrow.The number indicates thecap’s location in theengine. It matches anumber on the outside ofthe block, next to whichthe cap is to be installed.The caps are numbered inorder, from front ofcylinder block to rear.The arrow on each cap mustpoint toward engine front.1. Remove six bolts (1), washers (2)and three items 3 and 4 as anassembly (Figure 13-14).2. Remove and discard lower half ofthree main bearings (4) fromcrankshaft bearing caps (3,Figure 13-15).3. Install dial test indicator onclean, machined surface at bottomof cylinder block, fourth mainbearing journal from front(Figure 13-16).4.
