Measure at four bolt(98) locations. Note the averagethickness and add 0.008 inch.This will be the total shimthickness to be added to coverwithout shim(s). If thethickness of shim(s) required isless than 0.005 inch and morethan 0.025 inch, add thickness ofthe shim(s) required from feelergage measurement plus 0.008 inchto the 0.015 inch shim thicknessof the other cover. Divide thetotal thickness of the shim(s)evenly and install the samethickness of shim(s) on eachcover (100).17.Remove four of eight bolts (98),lockwashers (99) and the cover(100, Figure 10-50) withoutshim(s).NOTEThickness of one shim is0.00473 inch and thickness ofother shim is 0.00197 inch.18.Position shim(s) (102 and 101) oncover (100, Figure 10-51) atthickness determined in step 16.19.Install remaining new preformedpacking (103), cover (100),remaining four of eightlockwashers (99) and bolts (98).Tighten four bolts (98) to 32ft-lb torque.
