Perform steps 1 and 2 only if reusing fuel pump.
1. Mark fuel injection pump gear (Figure 1, Item 1) and idler gear (Figure 1, Item 2) for proper timing during
installation.
2. Lock fuel injection pump shaft in position.
C AU T I O N
Do not use tools or excessive force to apply pressure to fuel injection pump gear. Failure
to follow this caution may cause damage to equipment.
a. Apply pressure to fuel injection pump gear (Figure 1, Item 1) and hold in a counterclockwise direction to
remove backlash from drive gears.
