HIGH LEAK OFF OF FUEL INJECTOR
00035
General
00035
There are six fuel injectors mounted on the cylinder head. The fuel injectors are an electro-mechanical device.
High-pressure fuel is continuously available to each injector. The engine Electronic Control Module (ECM)
determines the correct time and duration for activating each injector.
Accelerated wear on delivery valve of fuel injector results in an increased fuel leak rate. High pressure pump
cannot generate enough fuel flow or volume in order to compensate for leak off rates above a critical value of
1.3 oz. (38 mL) per 30 seconds of cranking at a speed of 150 RPM. If engine cranks, but does not start, perform
Engine Cranks but Will Not Start in (WP 0010). If this procedure does not solve the problem, perform this test
procedure to assess condition of fuel system leak. Test may be conducted while engine is cranking or running.
Setup
00035
C AU T I O N
Wipe area clean around fuel hoses and tubes. Contamination of fuel system could result
in premature failure.
N OT E
Cap fuel tubes and fittings.
Tag and note routing of fuel tubes to aid in installation.
1. Remove fluid passage bolt (Figure 33, Item 5), sealing washer (Figure 33, Item 4), secondary fuel tube (Figure
33, Item 3), and sealing washer (Figure 33, Item 2) from fuel injector pump (Figure 33, Item 1).
