AIR-IN-FUEL TEST CONTINUED
00035
WARN I N G
Diesel fuel is combustible and an irritant. Skinand eye protection is required. Ensure work
area is well ventilated.
Keep away from open flame and other ignition sources.
When servicing this machine, performing mainenance, or disposing of materials such as
t
engine coolant, hydraulic fluid, lubricants, battery acids or batteries, and CARC paint,
consult your unit/local hazardous waste disposal center or safety office for local regulatory
guidance. If further information is needed, please contact The Army Environmental Hotline
at 1-800-872-3845.
Failure to follow these warnings may cause injury or death to personnel.
24. Start and run the engine at 1000 rpm (TM 5-3805-293-10).
25. Check the air-in-fuel tester for fuel leaks.
a. If condition not found, proceed to step 26.
b. If condition found, return to step 16 and perform steps a through r.
WARN I N G
Residual pressure remains in fuel line. Wear adequate eye protection when removing air-
in-fuel test hose in the following step. Failure to follow this warning may result in injury to
personnel.
26. Check fuel pressure on gauge. Pressure should be 44 to 80 psi (303 to 552 kPa).
a. If fuel pressure is more than 87 psi (600 kPa), there is a problem with fuel injection pump pressure
regulator. Turn ignition switch to the OFF position, open valve (Figure 26, Item 6) and relieve fuel pressure
into suitable container. Replace fuel injection pump (WP 0074).
b. If pressure is less than 44 psi (303 kPa), turn ignition switch to the OFF position. Inspect low pressure fuel
lines (Figure 27, Item 1) between fuel injection pump (Figure 27, Item 2) and secondary fuel filter (Figure
27, Item 3) for kinks, crushed or deformed lines.
(1) If condition found, turn ignition switch to the OFF position, open valve (Figure 26, Item 6) and relieve
fuel pressure into suitable container. Replace fuel line (WP 0173).
(2) If condition not found, turn ignition switch to the OFF position, open valve (Figure 26, Item 6) and
relieve fuel pressure into suitable container. Replace fuel injection pump (WP 0074).
c.
If fuel pressure is within specified range, proceed to step 27.
