TROUBLESHOOTING
PROBLEM: Transmission does not operate in FIRST and
FOURTH speeds forward or reverse.
PROBABLE CAUSE:
1. No. 5 clutch not engaged (slips) because of:
a.
Low oil pressure.
b.
Discs and plates have too much wear.
PROBLEM: Transmission does not operate in SECOND and
FIFTH speeds FORWARD or REVERSE.
PROBABLE CAUSE:
1. No. 4 clutch not engaged (slips) because of:
a.
Low oil pressure.
b.
Discs and plates have too much wear.
PROBLEM: Transmission does not operate in THIRD and
SIXTH speeds FORWARD or REVERSE.
PROBABLE CAUSE:
1. No. 3 clutch not engaged (slips) because of:
a.
Low oil pressure.
b .
Discs and plates have too much wear.
PROBLEM: Transmission does not operate in REVERSE
but does operate in all FORWARD speeds.
PROBABLE CAUSE:
1. No. 2 clutch does not engage (slips) because
of:
a.
Low oil pressure (P2).
b.
Discs and plates have too much wear.
PROBLEM: Transmission does not shift out of a speed
when the shift lever is moved.
PROBABLE CAUSE:
1. Control linkage and/or cable has damage or
wrong adjustment.
2. Clutch not releasing.
PROBLEM: Transmission engages but the machine does not
move and the engine stops.
PROBABLE CAUSE:
1. The gears in the transmission cannot turn
because of:
a.
Parking brake is on.
b.
Planetary in the final drive has broken
gears and cannot turn.
c.
Differential group has broken gears and
will not turn.
d.
Too many transmission clutches are being
engaged in the transmission.
PROBLEM: Transmission gets hot.
PROBABLE CAUSE:
1. Bad temperature gauge.
2. Low oil level.
3. Core of oil cooler not completely open.
4. Too much resistance in the clutch.
5. Low oil flow as a result of pump wear.
PROBLEM: Transmission does not operate in FORWARD
but does operate in all REVERSE speeds.
PROBABLE CAUSE:
1. No. 1 clutch does not engage (slips) because
of:
a.
Low oil pressure.
b.
Discs and plates have too much wear.
PROBLEM: Transmission does not operate in FIRST,
SECOND, and THIRD speed but does operate
in FOURTH, FIFTH, and SIXTH.
PROBABLE CAUSE:
1. No. 6 clutch not engaged (slips) because of:
a.
Low oil pressure.
b.
Discs and plates have too much wear.
PROBLEM: Transmission does not operate in FOURTH,
FIFTH, and SIXTH speed but does operate in
FIRST, SECOND, and THIRD.
PROBABLE CAUSE:
1. No. 7 clutch not engaged (slips) because of:
a.
Low oil pressure.
b.
Discs and plates have too much wear.
PROBLEM: Pump noise is not normal.
PROBABLE CAUSE:
1. Loud sounds at short intervals that give an
indication that particles are going through the
pump is caused by pump cavitation.
2. A constant loud noise is an indication of pump
failure.
