COOLING SYSTEM INSPECTION
00036
WARN I N G
Personal injury can result from hot coolant, steam and alkali. At operating temperature,
engine coolant is hot and under pressure. Radiator and all lines to heaters or engine
contain hot coolant or steam. Any contact can cause severe burns. Allow engine and
coolant to cool before slowly removing filler cap to relieve cooling system pressure.
Engine must be stopped and radiator cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.
Failure to follow this warning may result in injury or death to personnel.
Visual Inspection of Engine Cooling System
00036
1. Verify engine cooling system has correct type, mixture, and level of engine coolant. Drain and fill engine
coolant if coolant is suspect (WP 0052).
2. Inspect sealing surface (Figure 1, Item 2) of coolant tank cap (Figure 1, Item 1).
a. Replace coolant tank cap if sealing surface is damaged (WP 0052).
b. If coolant tank cap is OK install coolant tank cap and proceed to step 3.
3. Visually inspect coolant tank (Figure 1, Item 3), inlet hose (Figure 1, Item 5), and outlet hose (Figure 1, Item 6)
for Class III leaks and damage.
a. If leak is at inlet hose clamp (Figure 1, Item 4), or outlet hose clamp (Figure 1, Item 7) tighten clamps.
b. If inlet and outlet hoses are leaking or damaged replace inlet and outlet hoses (WP 0053).
