N OT E
Always inspect the harness connectorsthat are involved in the circuit.
Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical
circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean and secure,
and that all connections are in good condition. If a problem with a con-
nection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code
is Active before performing this procedure.
Perform open or short circuit test ateach harness connection to identify
correct harness to replace.
Perform this test only if condition is Active.
Test Step 1. Test for Signal Voltage
at LH Joystick.
1. Connect MSD (WP 0006), select
Trans/chassis 120M and verify
1473-04 is active.
2. Turn ignition switch and battery
disconnect switch to the OFF
position.
3. Disconnect the cab lower wiring
harness connector P-C48 (WP
0009, Figure 116) from LH joy-
stick connector J-3 (WP 0009,
Figure 117) (WP 0282).
4. Turn ignition switch and battery
disconnect switch to the ON posi-
tion.
5. Using digital multimeter, measure
Voltage OK (7.2 - 8.8 Volts) - Sensor
voltage between P-C48 terminal 1
signal circuit, transmission and imple-
(WP 0009, Figure 116) and termi-
ment ECM OK. Replace LH joystick
nal 3 (ground). Voltage should be
(WP 0282).
between 7.2 and 8.8 volts.
Proceed to step 6.
Voltage Not OK - Sensor signal cir-
cuit shorted or transmission or imple-
ment ECM bad, proceed to Test Step
2.
6. Using the MSD (WP 0006), select
1473-08 Code Active - Repeat trou-
Trans/chassis 120M and verify
bleshooting code from the beginning.
1473-08 is not active.
1473-08 Code Not Active - Trouble-
shooting complete.
