downs while conditions that cause this
diagnostic code are present.
N OT E
Each module will have a battery or mainsystem voltage input, ignition
switch input, and a ground circuit.
The cause of an intermittent pow r supply to an ECM may occur on
e
either positive side or negative side of battery circuits to affected
module. The connections for the un-switched battery (+) positive are
routed through a dedicated protection device (circuit breaker) on the
machine. Faults such as intermittent shutdowns could be caused by
machine wiring.
Test assumes batteries are fully charged. Ensure batteries are fully
charged before continuing (WP 0041).
Test Step 1. Test ECM Battery
Voltage Supply Circuit.
N OT E
Always inspect the harness connectorsthat are involved in the circuit.
Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical
circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean and secure,
and that all connections are in good condition. If a problem with a
connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic
code is active before performing this procedure.
Perform open or short circuit test ateach harness connection to identify
correct harness to replace.
Perform this test only if condition is active.
1. Connect MSD (WP 0006). Select
Engine ECM C6.6 120M and
verify 0168-01 is active.
2. Perform Alternator and Charging
Alternator Voltage Too Low -
System Tests (WP 0040).
Replace alternator (WP 0094).
Alternator Voltage OK - Proceed to
step 3.
