CDI FMI CODE
ERROR/EVENT
CORRECTIVE ACTION
0168-02 Electrical System
System Response:
Voltage Erratic, Intermittent,
ECM may stop injecting fuel. This
or Incorrect
may be dependent on length of
time of occurrence of fault.
A warning may appear on instru-
ment panel as if keyswitch was
just turned on and engine started.
Possible Performance Effect:
Engine may experience changes in
engine rpm, and intermittent engine
shutdowns or complete engine shut-
downs while conditions that cause this
diagnostic code are present.

Each module will have a batery input, ignition switch input, and a
t
ground circuit.
The cause of an interruption in power supply to an ECM may occur on
either positive side or negative side of battery circuits to the affected
module. The connections for the un-switched battery (+) positive are
routed through a dedicated protection device (circuit breaker) on the
machine. Faults such as intermittent shutdowns could be caused by
machine wiring.
Test assumes batteries are fully charged and charging system is
functioning correctly. Ensure batteries are fully charged (WP 0041)
before continuing.
Test Step 1. Test ECM Battery
Voltage Supply Circuit.
N OT E
Always inspect the harness connectorsthat are involved in the circuit.
Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical
circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean and secure,
and that all connections are in good condition. If a problem with a
connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic
code is active before performing this procedure.
Perform open or short circuit test ateach harness connection to identify
correct harness to replace.
Perform this test only if condition is active.
Engine ECM C6.6 120M and
verify 0168-02 is active.
2. Perform Battery Cable and Alter-
Cable or Connection Bad - Tighten
nator Cable Test (WP 0042).
connection or replace cable.
Cables Good - Proceed to step 3.
