Operation of the engine for long periods at idle speed will cause a
deterioration of the internal components of the engine and increase fuel
High engine speed will increase fuel consumption. At high engine
speeds, internal power losses in the engine increase and more power is
required to drive the alternator and the fan. These power losses
increase fuel consumption. Lugging down the engine to a low engine
speed will increase fuel consumption. At low engine speeds, the
combustion efficiency of the engine is reduced. This will require more
fuel to be used.
2. Perform Fuel Quality Test (WP
Fuel System is Contaminated -
Drain fuel (WP 0229), replace primary
fuel filter (WP 0174), replace
secondary fuel filter (WP 0073), and
fill with correct fuel (TM 5-3805-293-
10) for machine operation.
3. Perform Fuel System Inspection
Fuel Rail Lines Leaking - Replace
fuel rail lines (WP 0072).
Low Pressure Fuel Lines Leaking -
Tighten lines (WP 0173).
Low Pressure Fuel Lines
Restricted/Damaged - Replace low
pressure fuel line (WP 0173).
Separator Damaged or
Contaminated - Replace primary fuel
filter and water separator (WP 0174).
